You had me at ‘cash cage’: Weyburn Credit Union to celebrate the rally as a community –

When Weyburn Credit Union hosts an event, they do it in style, and it’s for everyone. On June 21, they will host their first ultra-public, ultra-local event since 2019.

“We haven’t had a community event in over two years, and for us as a credit union, it’s been really tough,” said vice president of marketing Tana Torkelson. “We just decided, when we come back, we might as well come back strong and make it an event and a real celebration for the whole community, so we hope that a lot of people can come and celebrate.”

“This year we called this event Community Reconnect and Celebrate because it’s an opportunity to come together as a community.”

The “celebrate” part, Torkelson said, comes from the fact that during intermission they will be announcing the Community Fund grant recipients.

“So you can come join us for a community BBQ, stay for a family dance featuring the Bromantics, they’re so fantastic, they’re truly amazing, and then find out who will be receiving nearly $60,000 in community fund grants, so we think it should be a really good night.”

This event will not be held indoors as it has in other years. Instead, they will host it in the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre’s outdoor rink.

“We have such a small window to enjoy our time, so we thought it would be a really good nostalgic feeling to welcome him outside and in the fresh air.”

She said that while everyone should bring a lawn chair to sit on, they will have cocktail tables and picnic tables.

“So we will have some, but we encourage people to bring their own as we may not have enough for the whole crowd.”

Not only will there be food, music and activities for the kids After only being able to use it once, Torkelson said they will also be bringing the Cash Cage.

“It’s kind of like an old-fashioned phone booth, but it’s got air flowing money, and we’re actually going to load our ticket machine with $1,000 and pick a winner this that night, and the winner has to be there of course, and they can go into the till and grab as much of that $1,000 as they can.”

Greater Community Reconnects and Celebrates Community BBQ and Family Dance with the Bromantics begins at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21 and ends at 9:00 p.m.
