New Delhi [India]May 5 (ANI): If you’ve recently had trouble using card payments for subscriptions and app purchases on Apple, don’t worry, you’re not alone as the US tech giant has stopped accepting these payment methods across India.
Apple’s support page, which lists payment methods available in each country, currently only shows three payment options, net banking, UPI, and Apple ID balance. The last option can monthly deduct money from the account when renewing the subscription.
All of this implies that Indian credit or debit card users will not be able to make purchases from the Apple App Store, subscribe to iCloud+, Apple Music or purchase media content.
Users have even complained about the elimination of credit and debit card options on Twitter.
One shared, “Wow. So Apple just removing cards from the list of supported payment methods.”
The decision to scrap these payment options comes after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) introduced new rules for direct debits last year, which disrupted recurring online transactions.
The new RBI mandate stated that automatic recurring payments for various services such as utility bills, phone recharge, DTH and OTT payments should be stopped. (ANI)
