Pune: Man loses Rs 2 lakh after thieves snatch his debit card outside ATM

Two unidentified thieves allegedly snatched a 35-year-old man’s debit card as he walked out of an ATM kiosk in the Dehu area of ​​Pune on Sunday and made a dozen transactions worth Rs 2 lakh using the stolen card, police said.

The incident happened outside the ATM of a major private sector bank, located opposite Sant Tukaram Bazar on Dehu Alandi Road at 11, police said. The first information report (FIR) in the case was filed at Dehu Road Police Station under the jurisdiction of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The complainant, a resident of Dehu Gaon who works for a private company, went to the ATM to withdraw cash. When he came out, one of the two people standing behind him asked him to show his debit card, police said. When he refused to do so, the duo grabbed the card and fled the scene, before the complainant could arrest them, police added.

Police suspect the duo saw the plaintiff’s debit card PIN while making the withdrawal. Over the next two hours, the plaintiff lost Rs 1.99 lakh in a transaction of Rs 99,000 at a jewelry store and 10 other transactions of Rs 10,000 each, before he could block the card, police said.

Police said they were investigating security camera tracks in the area as well as business connections with a similar modus operandi in the past.
