Pune: Fraudster replaces elderly man’s debit card and withdraws cash Rs 60,000 | Pune News

PUNE: A 71-year-old man filed a complaint with Hadapsar Police on Friday saying a fraudster diverted his attention, stole the PIN code and replaced his debit card with an inoperative one and used it to withdraw Rs 60,000 from various ATMs.
The incident happened at an ATM near Noble Hospital in Hadapsar on May 10.
Mundhwa resident Maruti Sawant went to the ATM of a public sector bank and inserted the debit card to withdraw cash. He took the cellphone out of his bag to verify the one-time password, police said.
Sawant in his FIR said the fraudster walked into the ATM kiosk, touched the screen, and began giving him instructions to follow certain steps before completing the transaction.
The FIR read that the fraudster replaced his debit card with an inoperative one and stole the PIN code and used it to withdraw Rs 60,000 from various ATMs. The fraud came to light after the plaintiff received text messages regarding transactions he had not made.
Hadapsar Police Senior Inspector Arvind Gokule said on Saturday, “We will analyze the CCTV camera to establish the identity of the fraudster and arrest him at the earliest after we receive footage from the bank.”
An FIR under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
